‘Feels Like Rain’

‘Hello,

I've recently created a short film entitled ‘Feels Like Rain’ The film is set to the music by the same name—3rd track on the album ‘Legacy’

I have had an interest in still and moving images since way back. Tbh, it's difficult for me to pinpoint a time when sound and visuals weren't of equal interest to me; however, although I've worked with still images for many years–I've also shot many many hours of video–I had never made a complete film until now (albeit, a very short film!)

When I wrote the music ‘Feels Like Rain’ (about 5-6 years ago), I had a very clear idea about the story behind the album before I started writing. I pretty much write everything that way, and I use text to describe the concepts behind the scenes for the various stages of the work: ‘Storyboards’, if you will. In fact, I do actually use pictures as well to create the story line; these usually form part of what later become the artwork. My point is: although I couldn't quite describe how I conceptualize sound before I write music, visual images do often form part of the process!

The reason why I feel the need to explain this is that when I was making this film, conjuring up images and scenes from the soundtrack, I didn't feel that I should try to recreate the story that brought the original music into being, but that I should make something that was relevant to me now, and not be restricted by what I had already conceived. I say again: this short film isn't a recreation of the images and story that inspired the original music track and album; it's more like my interpretation of it has evolved through the past 5 years of living!

It's funny because the thing that started me composing, in earnest (I had aspired to do so for many years!), was when I began making a stop-motion short, set to music written by Samuel Barber, and the idea occurred to me that I should compose my own sound track! I never did finish that film, but the rest, as they say...
